Braces gently move teeth into better positions using brackets and wires. They are used to correct crowding, gaps, rotated teeth and bite problems, which can improve both appearance and the way you chew and clean your teeth.
Dental Universe offers metal, ceramic (tooth-coloured) and self-ligating braces. Treatment duration varies with the complexity of the case, but most treatments run for many months to a couple of years, with regular adjustment visits.
When You May Need Dental Braces
- Crowded or overlapping teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Protruding front teeth or a deep bite
- Upper and lower teeth that do not meet properly
- Teeth that are difficult to clean because of their position
How the Treatment Works
- Orthodontic assessment. Examination, photos, impressions or scans and X-rays are used to plan treatment.
- Preparation. Any decay or gum problems are treated first, and sometimes tooth extraction is advised to create space.
- Placing the braces. Brackets are bonded to the teeth and the first wire is fitted.
- Regular adjustments. Visits every few weeks allow the wires to be changed and progress to be checked.
- Retention. After the braces are removed, retainers are given to hold the teeth in their new position.
Benefits
- Straighter, better-aligned teeth
- Easier cleaning and healthier gums
- Improved bite and chewing
- Options to suit different budgets and appearance preferences
Aftercare & Tips
- Brush after every meal and use interdental brushes or floss threaders
- Avoid very hard, sticky or chewy foods that can break brackets
- Attend every adjustment appointment
- Wear your retainers exactly as advised
